Q: Who do I contact concerning a pothole in the street to have it
repaired?
A: Call the Street Department at (605) 842-0931.
Q: My street is dirty and I feel it should be cleaned, whom do I call?
A: Call the Street Department at (605) 842-0931. The
Department has a schedule it follows to clean streets with a mechanical street
sweeper.
Q: My street is slippery and needs sanded, who do I call?
A: Call (605) 842-0931. After 5 PM you should contact the
Police Department at (605) 842-3324. They will investigate the street and if
sanding is needed they will contact the Street Department who have personnel on
call to come in and sand the street.
Q: When does the City plow streets after a snowfall?
A: When the City receives four inches or more of
snow and it has stopped snowing, the Street Department plows go out. Their first
responsibility is the emergency routes, which includes clearing snow from the
fire hall, police station and streets to the hospital. Once emergency routes
are done they will begin a schedule of plowing streets in town, including Main
Street.
Q: I am concerned about the condition of the street around my
property, what is the schedule to repair or replace city streets?
A: The Street Committee of the City Council, by
working with the City Engineer and Public Works Director, determine which streets
in the city have the highest priority for repair or replacement. The City, on an
annual basis budgets funds for repair and re-building city streets. The quantity
or footage of repairs to be made each year will depend on the funds allocated.
